This time, ato.archives welcomes Taiwan-based modular synthesist Ryan J Raffa as a guest curator, offering a dive into Taiwan’s emerging modular synthesizer scene.

Represented here are artists and musicians who I have been fortunate enough to come to know over the past 8 years, and it’s my great pleasure to bring their music, a collection of modular music of Taiwan, to you.
This music is an invitation. In a way, these sounds are describing the current landscape, allowing everyone, including the musicians involved, to better know and become aware of the sounds being made here at this moment in time. As weiii so succinctly commented, “I hope to contribute to a more appreciative, diverse, and inclusive sound environment in Taiwan, where experimental and modular sounds can thrive and be better understood.” There is a tendency for those closest or familiar with something to feel they have a full understanding of it. Our hope is that this collection can provide new perspectives and understanding; both an entry point for the uninitiated as well as a reference for those looking for a deeper understanding of the vibrant modular music community of Taiwan.
